Autodesk Educational Campus Agreement Overview
The Educational Campus Agreement is available to Secondary Schools, Colleges Universities and professional Educational Institutions recognised or accredited by the Department of Education. Also, with approval from Autodesk, eligibility may be extended to certain non-profit making and charitable educational organisations.
The purpose of the Campus Agreement is to provide an open and flexible licensing solution to Educational Institutions that wish to deploy a wide range of Autodesk software throughout a number of departments. The Campus Agreement is designed as a three-year agreement, invoiced on an annual basis. Either party may terminate the Agreement by written notice three months prior to the annual renewal date.
What Software Do I Receive with the Campus Agreement?
The Campus Agreement provides the Educational Institution with media for the latest release of Autodesk software listed below:
- AutoCAD
- AutoCAD MEP
- AutoCAD Electrical (Includes AutoCAD)
- Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture (Includes AutoCAD)
- Autodesk Revit Architecture Suite (Includes AutoCAD)
- Autodesk Revit Structure (Includes AutoCAD)
- Autodesk Revit MEP Suite
- Autodesk Inventor Professional (Includes AutoCAD)
- Autodesk Map3D (Includes AutoCAD)
- Autodesk Civil3D (Includes AutoCAD)
- Autodesk Viz (Now called 3ds max Designer)
Any combination of the above software may be purchased as part of the Campus Agreement. However, a minimum of 10 licenses of the specified software is required.
For example, if an education institution wanted a 100 license Campus Agreement they could order:
53 x Inventor Professional; 22 x Revit Series; 15 x Civil3D and 10 x Viz = 100 licenses.
What are the Licensing Procedures and Costs?
The minimum Campus Agreement is 50 licenses of any combination of software listed above. When purchasing the Campus Agreement the Educational Institution must specify the total number of licenses required together with the number of authorisation codes required for each product. A cost per license applies determined by the total number of licenses purchased. The total license cost is paid in a specified month and then on an annual basis for the three year term. The renewal cost for the 2nd and 3rd year will be the same as the 1st year.
On the Campus Agreement all licences and products are placed under the Autodesk Subscription Programme.
Licenses may be installed on a network or on standalone PCs. Network installation uses FlexLM licensing technology meaning licences are available from the server on a concurrent basis. Authorisation codes for standalone PCs are also available. This applies to lecturer or student machines either for use within the Educational Institution or at home.
What is the Autodesk Subscription Programme?
The Autodesk Subscription Programme is the best way to keep your Autodesk Software current, all for an annual fee. In effect this is what you get with the Campus Agreement, so as soon as any new versions of the Autodesk products listed above become available they will be shipped to the Educational Institution free-of-charge. The Educational Institution also has the option of downloading any product extensions from the Autodesk Subscription Centre.
How Will the Agreement Benefit Us in Practice?
For example, a University is currently using Autodesk Software in a number of different departments:
| Environmental: |
AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor |
| Engineering: |
AutoCAD, Autodesk Building Systems, Autodesk Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Viz, Autodesk Revit Series |
| Construction: |
AutoCAD, Autodesk Map3D Series, Autodesk Civil3D |
| Design/Technology: |
AutoCAD, Autodesk Viz |
In total the University has 230 licenses. Most likely each department will have purchased its Autodesk software independently at SRPs such as £1,195 for a 10-pack including subscription or £1, 995 for a 20-pack including subscription.
The total cost to the University for 230 licenses = £23,140, plus £9,775 each year to renew the subscription.
i.e. the total cost over three years = £42,690.
With the Campus Agreement the University is shipped media for all the Autodesk products listed on page 1 and specifies the number of authorisation codes required per product up to 230 licenses/authorisation codes in total.
To help you to purchase your software as efficiently as possible, note that many products are supplied in a bundle. For example, if the Engineering department requested 80 authorisation codes/licences of Autodesk Inventor Professional to be installed on the department network all PC’s would have access to Autodesk Inventor Professional, Mechanical Desktop, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Mechanical. The FlexLM (Network) license works on a concurrent basis so up to a maximum of 80 machines on the network can access any of these four applications at any given time. If required, software may be installed on a one year authorisation code for student use.
Overall Campus Agreement Cost for 230 Licences:
230 x £37.50 = £8,625 per year = £25,875 for the three year term of the Agreement.
The saving to the University is therefore £42,690 - £25,875 = £16,815 over the three years.
How Flexible is the Licensing Model?
The number of required authorisation codes per product may be altered upon request and additional licenses may be purchased during the year and the license control form updated.
Can we purchase Autodesk Media & Entertainment 3ds Max software under a Campus Agreement?
Yes, if you purchase the Autodesk Campus Agreement, a separate Agreement for 3ds Max software may also be purchased. Please ask your Autodesk Educational Reseller for information.
