With the Adobe Cumulative Licensing Program (CLP) 4.5 CHEST agreement, your institution can cut costs and simplify software administration on volume software licenses. Under this agreement establishments like yours can purchase perpetual license and maintenance (Upgrade Plan) for Adobe's most popular industry-standard software. Savings for a typical university not currently on the highest discount tier are approximately 40%.
One of the major benefits of the CHEST Adobe CLP agreement is that your institution can choose either concurrent or non-concurrent licenses.
1. With non-concurrent licenses you need to buy a license for each computer you wish to install Adobe software on.
OR
2. Concurrent licenses enable you to deploy Adobe software to all machines in your institution. However you only purchase the number of licenses you will require to be in use at any one time.
Typical Scenario
You have a department with 200 computers & want to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended on each machine.
The price of an Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended non-concurrent license is £100 and a Concurrent License is £140
In Option 1 above, the price to put Photoshop CS4 Extended on 200 machines would be £20,000
With Option 2, you feel that whilst you need the software on all 200 machines only half the machines will ever be used at one time. In this case you would pay only £14,000
So in this case concurrent licensing would save you £6000!
How would I ensure that no more than 100 computers are using Photoshop CS4 Extended at anyone time?
You will need technology in place with an authorisation process to allow/decline access to Photoshop CS4 Extended software on an individual computer basis.
What solutions are available to assist me in managing concurrency?
There are solutions that proactively manage, track and prevent more concurrent licenses than you own from being used.

What if I already have NON Concurrent Licenses?
If you have Adobe non-concurrent licenses of the latest version of Adobe products i.e. CS4 you can convert these licenses to concurrent usage at a reduced cost.
This gives you the flexibility to deploy Adobe software to more machines on your network. Subject to having a solution in place to meter your usage of these concurrent licenses.
How much does it cost to uplift my non-concurrent licences to concurrent?
Approx 50% of the price you paid for your non-concurrent licence.
